The basics
What is Arcwright?
A game engine and editor built for working with AI. You describe what you want, and an AI builds it in the editor while you watch every step. You can stop, change or undo anything, or build everything by hand. It makes 2D and 3D games.
Is it free?
Arcwright Beta 1 is a free download for Windows, Mac and Linux. Building with your own AI app or API key costs nothing on our side. The built-in AI, Claude Opus 5.5, runs on Sparks (in the Mac app and the browser editor now; Windows and Linux next). The Arcade, the browser editor and the Forge are free in your browser.
Which AI does it work with?
Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or any app that speaks MCP: in the app, open Help › Connect an AI App. Or use the built-in Claude Opus 5.5 with Sparks: in the Mac app and the browser editor now, with Windows and Linux next.
Do I need to know how to code?
No. You can build by talking to the AI, or by hand with the editor's tools. If you want code, gameplay scripts are plain JavaScript, and edits reload live while you play.
What are Sparks?
Credits for Arcwright's built-in AI. One Spark is about one cent of AI, and every reply shows what it cost. Bought Sparks never expire, and unused Sparks can be refunded within 14 days of buying them. More about Sparks.
Is the footage real?
Yes. Every clip and picture on this site was recorded in the engine, except the reference pictures we label as AI references (made with Nano Banana), which show what we built from.
Is it finished?
It's a beta. Most of the engine is solid and some parts are still being finished. See what we're working on, and tell us what breaks.
Making games
What can I make?
2D and 3D games: open worlds, shooters, platformers, racing, survival and more. Beta 1 comes with sample games you can open and take apart, like Hollowreach and Ashgrove. See how it works and the games.
What is the Forge?
The part of Arcwright that makes 3D models: props, furniture, buildings, vehicles, weapons, nature and characters, built from a recipe in stages you can watch. Try it in your browser; the full Forge is in the app.
What is Nano Banana, and do I need it?
Nano Banana is Google's image model. We use it to make reference pictures, because a good reference is the biggest quality boost for the Forge. You don't need it: your own drawings and photos work too. The guide in the app shows our whole method. See how it works.
Can I bring in my own models?
Yes. GLB/glTF, FBX, OBJ and USD models come in with their materials, and rigged characters with their animations. Sounds and pictures import the same way.
Your work
Who owns what I make?
You do. Your games are yours, and models you make with the Forge are yours to use in any project. Arcwright is royalty-free until a game has earned $20 million.
Can I publish or sell my game?
Press Publish to put it on Arcwright Play, where anyone can play it. File › Export Game makes a stand-alone copy for Mac, Windows or Linux, ready for other stores such as Steam. Selling art, kits and games inside the Arcwright store comes later.
Can I use Forge models in other engines?
Yes. The browser Forge downloads a GLB that opens in Unity, Unreal, Godot, Blender or Arcwright.
Computers and devices
What does it run on?
Mac, Windows, Linux and the Steam Deck. On the download page you'll find what each one needs.
Does it work on a phone?
The games in the Arcade play in a phone browser, and the browser editor makes 2D games on a phone too. The full engine is a desktop app.
Help
Where do I get help or report a bug?
In the app, Help › Send Feedback reaches us directly. You can also use the feedback page or ask on the Discord.
Who makes Arcwright?
Gordon, building in public with Claude Opus 5.5 since the first commit on Oct 4, 2026: over 500,000 lines of code and more than 7,500 updates. Every day is in the build log.
What do you do with my data?
As little as we can. It's all in plain words on the privacy page.
